Back-end builder and visual builder

This session serves as basic orientation. We will dive deeper in later sessions.

The Divi builder has two ‘modes’:

  • the classic back-end builder and
  • the new visual builder

Both modes use the same building blocks – the only difference is the interface used.

The back-end builder is accessed from inside the WordPress user interface. It is a block-based representation of your website.

To access the back-end builder:

  • navigate to the page or post you want to build and
  • click the purple button that reads ‘Use The Divi Builder’

The visual builder allows you to build pages, posts, etc, on the front-end of your website. It is exactly what it sounds like, a visual builder, and allows you to see your changes instantly. The visual builder can be accessed from the back-end or front-end of the page/post you are editing.

From the front-end:

  • click ‘Enable Visual Builder’ from the WordPress admin bar at the top of the page.

From the back-end:

  • once the Divi builder is enabled
  • click the blue button that reads ‘Use Visual Builder’
