To begin your WordPress journey, you will need to know how to log in to the back-end of your website.

The default WordPress login URL is “yourwebsiteurl.co.za”/wp-admin/. Replace “yourwebsiteurl.co.za” with the actual URL of your website.

Sometimes the login URL is customised so keep that in mind when you log in.

Go to “yourwebsiteurl.co.za”/wp-admin/ and a log in screen similar to the following will load:

Enter your username and password. Check ‘Remember Me’ if:

  • your PC is NOT public
  • you will be using the same PC to access the website later.

If you check ‘Remember Me’, you will be logged in automatically for 14 days. If not, you will be logged out automatically when you close your browser or after two days.

Click ‘Log In’ to log into the website. You will land on the Dashboard.

The majority of websites (should) use two-factor authentication. This step will come after you click ‘Log In’ and can take the form of:

  • a code via email
  • a code via text
  • a code via an authentication app
  • a whitelisted IP
  • something else

If you do not remember your password, click ‘Lost your password?’ and enter your username or email address to receive an email with a link to create a new password.

Remembering all of your passwords can be difficult. If you would like to store them somewhere always use a trusted password manager to keep your website safe.
